Biography

WHO AM I?
Born and bred in New Hampshire, I moved to Boston immediately after graduating from college with a BA in History (British social history, anyone?) and a collection of hazy sorority party memories. I’ve traveled around the United States extensively, Europe a little (not enough), and Canada occasionally.

My mother often reminds me that “Saturday’s child works hard for a living”, but I probably wasn’t supposed to take her literally. Regardless, I spent my late 20’s as a workaholic marketing and business development professional for an international financial services company. After 10 1/2 years, I left my officer position at the peak of the dot com frenzy to join, of all things, a technology company. Alas, after 3 1/2 years, as the air escaped the Massachusetts tech bubble, I was “released” to enjoy a lot of free time contemplating the meaning of life and my place in it. Timing is everything.

These days, I’m an independent strategy execution consultant living a little north of Boston with my Greek husband and a long-haired, double-pawed calico cat named Clancy. She’s spoiled – we’re not. In my free time, I watch too much TV and too many movies. I read about 4-5 newspapers a day, a couple of weeklies, a few monthly magazines, and not enough books.

I’m addicted to the news – all news. I can listen, watch, and read it all day, every day. I am especially interested in politics and generally consider myself a social liberal and fiscal moderate. Fortunately, my moderate-Republican husband is very tolerant of my frequent political tirades. I occasionally yell at the TV screen, even though I realize that the talking head I’m trying to “educate” can’t hear my self-proclaimed “brilliant” comments.

WHO THE HECK IS JESTER?
In early ‘95, I used a nickname, Jester, to protect my privacy while serving as a part-time chat room host for AOL’s Digital City Boston. It was an innocent gig that primarily consisted of entertaining tourists and natives with droll banter and color commentary regarding local sites and events. It was an excellent opportunity to sharpen my wit and publicly display an embarrassing aptitude for typos. My hosting days ended in mid-’96, but I remember my alter-ego fondly. My husband, a Jester chat room groupie, suggested I revive Jester for this blog. So, like a phoenix, Jester is back.

RULES OF THE GAME:
I encourage you to add constructive, thoughtful, interesting, or amusing comments that advance discussions. Any content that is overtly rude or disrespectful, that embarrasses or harasses readers, or that is fraudulent, will be deleted upon discovery. I have a thick skin, but expect readers to enjoy a polite and welcoming environment on my blog. Ultimately, this is the Jester's court and I am the reigning benevolent dictator.

DISCLAIMER:
I’m not a professional writer. As an undergraduate (oh so many moons ago), I wrote a lot of overly precious fiction and some total fluff, but quickly recognized my shortcomings. I claim no particular style or talent, but make every attempt to both inform and entertain. The only thing I guarantee is that I will run my casual posts through a spell- and basic grammar-check before I submit them for public scrutiny. Wit and wisdom will be doled out whenever possible.
