People on the opposite side of the political fence continue to deny the many missteps of the current administration. This detachment from reality baffles me. Many of these people appear to be articulate and thoughtful individuals. How can so many smart people be in such denial??
They obviously don’t weigh all the facts and accurately assess geopolitical realities. However, these poor folks aren’t stubbornly rejecting reality because they’re willfully ignorant or stubborn. Rather, science has proven these people’s brains simply won’t let them see the truth. Their brains are lying to them.
According to a recent Op-Ed piece in the NYT: “Consumers of news, for their part, are prone to selectively accept and remember statements that reinforce beliefs they already hold."
So, I guess the resistant final few GOP surrealists deserve my pity and patience versus my frustration and vitriol. Screaming “cite your source!” at them won’t cure them. They suffer from a chronic physiological affliction that only they, themselves, can cure by exposing themselves to more and multiple credible sources of information.
Obviously, a brain cannot survive and thrive on a diet of Faux news alone… [wink]
