On Sunday, I watched Meet the Press with Tim Russert. While discussing race relations in America, Marian Wright Edelman spoke eloquently about the Martin Luther King, Jr. legacy – how far we’ve come and how much further we have to go.
In addition to race relations, Ms. Edelman and her fellow guests discussed the issue of poverty in America. Their all-too-brief conversation stressed how education is critical to changing poor people’s fortunes. It opens minds and doors. It wasn’t groundbreaking thinking, but it certainly was refreshing to hear the topic being discussed on national TV.

I haven’t written much about politics lately because things have been so damn depressing. However, I’ve maxed out watching the Bush PR circus. His handlers have him appearing all over TV - same ole story, a little softer packaging and peddling, but nothing that inspires any confidence in his intelligence or ability. Plus, we just learned that he broke the law. Can you spell I-M-P-E-A-C-H??

I miss Bill Clinton in the White House. His blow job-gate was certainly an embarrassment, but at least no one died from his bad judgment. In fact, crudely put, I think the only two parties immediately involved in the event probably walked away from the scene smiling.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not condoning his sexual dalliances. I just think Clinton was a pretty damn good President; I believe he left the country in better shape than he found it. He wasn’t perfect, but no one ever accused him of being dumb. If anything, he was accused of being too smart, too smooth - ergo his “Slick Willy” moniker.
Clinton lied about cheating on his wife and was impeached. Bush lied to get this country into an unprovoked war and has thus far escaped any legal or moral ramification. Ignorance doesn’t excuse Bush’s incompetence. It just further degrades our national morale and international credibility. Election tampering allegations aside, apparently Democracy enables us to elect idiots. Not exactly something to brag about as we impose promote Democracy in the Middle East.
